Aquatic Complex at SUNY Stony Brook
This project consisted of a complete gut renovation including the removal of the old pool and all of its appertanances (pumps, filters, piping), removal of a 90' long by 7' tall concrete beam (featured in video below) and the interior perimeter wall and window wall system. The facility required extensive sheeting and shoring to construct this complex inside the existing building envelope. From the roof structure to the deep end of the diving area was a span of approximately 55'. This new NCAA Division I competition pool includes an elevated grandstand area as well as movable floor system in the shallow end to provide the University with hydrotherapy capabilities. The hydraulic floor system has the ability to move anywhere between 7' deep and level with the surrounding pool deck. The new state of the art mechanical system of heat exchangers and air handling units provide for heated pool water while maintaining the proper humidification and air temperatures.
