dubin Family Athletic Performance Center
This facility was constructed as a vertical addition to the existing building while maintaining occupancy in the therapy rooms and coach’s offices on the first floor. Structurally tying into the existing columns the cantilever design of the building provides for no added loading on to the roof or floor structures of the existing building. This complex provides NCAA Division I athletes of all disciplines and sports a dedicated training, strength and performance development environment. Part of the raised platform area which houses the weight training area is constructed of a 12” thick concrete floor that floats on a specialized spring action floor which provides vibration and noise isolation between the training area and the rest of the adjacent facility. The finished flooring systems throughout the facility were selected to withstand the abuses that weight and stationary equipment inflict on this type of space. It was through the generous support of Alumnus and former SBU Athlete, Glenn Dubin, and his family that made this dream become a reality.
