hempstead lake state park - environmental Education center

This award winning project consists of the construction of a completely “new out of the ground” two-story education center and approximately one (1) mile of new water main under the Southern State Parkway to feed the entire western portion of the park. As a resiliency center designed for extreme conditions the building foundation rests on approximately 200 wooden piles driven to a depth of 30 feet to ensure stability. The project is a structural steel frame with cast-in-place concrete. The building envelope consists of a structural insulated panel system (SIPS) along with an architectural phenolic panel covering, curtainwalls, and architectural finishes throughout. The civil work accomplished a mass earth movement to accommodate basement construction as well as providing for environmentally friendly sustainable gardens. Asphalt pavement and locally compatible landscaping, retaining walls and park like settings complete the project.
